Fig Facts
There are over 720 varieties of fig in the world
Australia has about 40 of which only a handful are commercially available. Most of these 40 were subject to research in Loxton for their suitability for wider release into the AU market And beyond. Unfortunately they we removed to make way for grape trials in the mid 90's, however small quantities of the fruiting wood were preserved and are now grown by several enthusiasts.
The late Tony Stevens preserved these varieties and other unknown ones, writing detailed notes of each for their growing and eating characteristics. We would like to preserve his memory and great work by introducing a fig walk on our property that contains each of these varieties with information about each for people to read, learn and taste.
